Touching Lives – 17 December 2020

Wow! Wow! Wow! – Santa hats on each chair, Christmas music, and glitterring lights….action!

We didn’t expect so much people to turn up tonight, but I was amazed with the turn up of guests and members to end our Toastmasters 2020 year with a great bang!

We had the pleasure of Stephen Budai (District 112 Programme Quality Director) and his wife Marlene Krone (also a Distingusihed Toastmaster) join us and present several awards:

Three Kings Toastmasters 35th Anniversary – a club that is a true historical treasure ensuring that many more members will be touched and nurtured to excellence for many more years to come.

ASL Leaders awards to Kevin Prohl (Immediate past President and current VPMembership) and Anji Adams (Current Area Director) – congratulations and thank you both for your outstanding contribution to making Toastmasters a hall mark in the lives of many members in District 112. Your achievements inspire the rest of us to go forward in confidence to try also.

As well as presenting these awards, Stephen Budai and Marlene both gave us a red light running speech evaluation and general evalutaion combo, that I am sure everyone one found valuable. Stephen didn’t quite finish as he was shooed off by Kevin haha! next time Stephen and Marlene visit he can finish. However, it was wonderful to see seasoned pros show us how to do it.

We also had the pleasure of Steve Peeters, an ex member but still family member, and seasoned contest speaker, who brings a touch of culture and humour (his own sense haha) to our meetings whenever he shows up – certainly keeps us awake with the boom of his voice. Tonight he gave an evaluation to one of our newer members and applied with Steve style.

Our Chairman was Riz and she lead was with her bright and warm smile throughout the evening and Kevin introduced each speaker with his usual flare of humour and praise.

Saane gave all the guests and some of seasoned speakers questions – which got some a little tongue tied, twisted or brain fuzzed to how they were to be answered. This allowed the audience to be join in and help them out – with a lot of laughs and interruptions.

Our SAA Les, started off the night on time with his house rules and Raymond Komen started off the laughter with his “Love Hotel” experiences.

We got to hear ice-breakers from three of our newest members – each gave us a view into their lives and helped us to understand their backgrounds. We got entertained and informed from three others or our not-so-new members doing their second speeches.

Anji Adams gave us the finale  in the speeches, in three short and sweet minute spurts.

As for everyone else the night went quickly even though we were ticking over time – which our time-keeper master, Allen, made sure of to ensure that all our speakers and excellent evaluators kept to.

Our loved up new “smiley-faced-like the cat who licked the cream look” Jeffrey gave a brief on his newly married life – which we know we will hear more of soon, in his next speech.

All – in – all it was a wonderful evening of family feeling and a nice one to end 2020. The president, Saane gave a final word of thanks and a reminder to all members to continue to touch people’s lives in whatever we do.

See you all in January 2021! Have a very merry Christmas break and New year!
