Our theme for the meeting on 16th May was “Where there’s a beginning, there’s an end. Where there’s an end, there’s a beginning.” It was a fun evening led by Chairman, Lakshman, with Toastmaster, Bek, who entertained us with some witty remarks. Grammarian, Steve, introduced the word of the night as “genesis.” Sastha was Ah Counter and Brenda kept us to time as Timekeeper.
The prepared speeches kept us entertained with Dilshani telling us about unfriendly immigration officers, Nishika reminding us to be positive, Leon speaking about self discipline, and Jacquie informing us about communication styles. Patrick kept us laughing with his speech about the three different types of fun – fun at the time; not fun at the time, but looking back it was fun; and not fun at the time, not fun when you look back, but has some value. Kevin gave an informative speech about a restorative approach to our education system. Justine made us smile with a humorous story about her three cats.
There was some time for networking over a complimentary buffet before a fun Table Topics session that was led by our Table Topics Master for the evening, Liz. Some guests took on the challenge of a Table Topics speech!
As always, it was an evening full of laughs and I can’t wait for the next Toastmasters meeting!
