Meeting Report 29 July – Breathing Toast-mastering!

It was wonderful having so many guests with us last night enjoying the Toastmasters meeting. The meeting theme “Breathing Toast-mastering” was very fitting. As Chairman Lakshman mentioned, we cannot do anything in life without speaking. Accordingly, it is important to be able to communicate well. Our word of the night ‘progress’ introduced by Lisa was such an appropriate word for the evening. We all have the same goal of progressing our communication skills and Toastmasters gives us essential communication and leadership skills to make that ‘progress’ happen.

We began the evening with some very informative prepared speeches to help us become better Toastmasters. Lakshman educated us about organising our speeches, Les informed us about our communication styles, and Jie explained the benefits of mentoring. Kavideth and Karolina also delivered powerful and entertaining speeches about their employment. Kevin likewise entertained us with a ‘smile story’ about how someone became interested in Toastmasters. Liz did a brilliant job as Toastmaster introducing our prepared speeches and the corresponding evaluators. As Table Topics Master, Daniel made our evening fun with some thought-provoking questions for our impromptu speeches.

As always, the buffet meal served in the refreshment break was a highlight of the evening. Toastmasters is such a fun way to spend a Thursday evening!

Meeting Report 15 July – We are all in this together!

Wow! What a great Toastmasters meeting last night.

We had five amazing speeches which all fitted the theme “We are all in this together”. Lakshman talked about how we can conquer our fear and Walaa gave us an informative speech with the reminder that we cannot control our genes but we have control over our environment. Richard entertained us with the speech “Who is that Geezer?” and made us laugh with a smile story about saving his ranch slider from a bull! Heather informed us about cryptocurrency and Steve had a powerful speech “Confessions of a Narcissist” which informed us about mentoring and reminded us “its not about me”. Lilla did an excellent job of introducing our speakers and evaluators as Toastmaster.

We together enjoyed a delicious buffet feast of pizza, kebabs, sushi, samosas, fruit, and more; before hearing some inspiring table topic speeches led by Les as our Table Topics Master. It was wonderful hearing how much our guests enjoyed the meeting and to see a number of guests returning for another visit.

Can’t wait for the next meeting!
